We are excited to highlight the exceptional efforts of Erica, our dedicated volunteer whose impactful contributions to the community deserve recognition. Join us as we delve into the inspiring insights she brings to our cause.
1. Why do you volunteer?
Volunteering is my way of giving something back for future generations to enjoy. Just a few hours of weeding or planting every other month can make a big difference, and it's rewarding to visit parks and reserves and see the regeneration where I've been involved with a planting day.
2. What have you enjoyed most about volunteering (for the environment)?
It's amazing how many trees volunteers can plant in just a few hours! On a recent Saturday morning at lovely Monarch Park, more than 500 trees were planted. The more trees planted, the more birds we will see in our neighbourhoods. And I always look forward to visiting Kahika Reserve with its fruit trees - a number of which were planted last year. There are also older, established fruit trees on the reserve, and I highly recommend tasting the juicy and sweet guavas when they are in season!
3. Can you share a specific instance where you felt like you made a difference as a volunteer?
Every planting day, I feel I make a difference, even if it's a small difference. The more trees we plant, the better our community and birdlife. Planting days are also a great opportunity to meet other people and swap stories!
