The home base for Pest Free Kaipātiki, at 3 Ross Avenue in Glenfield, finally has a name - Puāwai.
“The journey of deciding on a name for our building has been a significant one” says PFK Board Chair, Stuart Barton. “It has taken considerable deliberation and consultation with our community, but we feel confident that the name chosen really does reflect what this building is all about”.
The PFK Board wanted a name which spoke to the important environmental and community work being done by PFK’s hardworking volunteers and staff, the organisation’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi while also recognising the hopes for this new community space and what can be achieved together as a result of it.
“Puāwai, in Te Reo Māori, means flower, blossom or bloom and we feel this name really symbolises what this building is trying to achieve” says PFK General Manager, Annie Dignan.
“We want this building to be a place to bring our community together, a place which plays a significant role in working towards our organisation’s vision of a Kaipātiki where community and the natural environment flourish” says Annie.
“We’ve got this amazing community asset and we are excited to finally have a fitting name for this special place, a place where great things will blossom”.
