Our volunteers are starting a door to door letter-drop campaign to encourage weed removal on private properties around bush reserves in Kaipatiki. This campaign will begin with the delivery of pest plant information to 2,000 households and will continue to reach as far and wide as we can!
Auckland Council will soon be introducing requirements that people in some areas remove defined pest plants from their property and control them to prescribed standards. We want to take the lead and start getting our neighbourhoods free of invasive pest plants. For the coming months moth plant is our first priority. Moth plant is a particularly nasty environmental weed – a fast-growing vine that can rapidly smother and replace native vegetation. The pink/white flowers appear in January/February followed a month or so later by the seed pods. Five minutes pulling out moth plant vines now can save you five hours removing pods later!
To reach more households during the upcoming months can you spare 30 minutes or more of your time to help us deliver letters in your area?
Please email us at pestplants@pestfreekaipatiki.org.nz with the details of the street/s you would like to help with.
Can you help your community Recognise Report and Remove moth plant and other invasive weeds from your own garden and street?
Let's keep Kaipatiki pest plant free!
